FRUITBODY: 0.5 - 2cm wide. Almost like a discomycyete in appearance and a cross between a Crepidotus species and a jelly fungus this species, also known as Poplar Bell, starts with a campanulate fruitbody that becomes shallowly cup-shaped at maturity. The white outer surface is densely downy whilst the inner surface is tan in colour, smooth becoming radially folded. GILLS/PORES: N/A. FLESH: Thin and gelatinous with no taste or smell. SPORES: Allantoid, smooth, and measuring 7-10 x 2.5-3μm. HABITAT: Found on dead or moribund wood of Poplars, occasionally Salix species too. Fallen branches are a particularly favoured substrate. SEASON: Uncommon. Late summer to early winter. EDIBILITY: Inedible. |
